My first Job

It was really a fresh memory that i took my first job. I would sincerely say thanks to my ex boss who teach me a lot not only in technical field but also in morals of being a man.
‘It was a special job working on the vessel but no more than 10 people in China work in this field, can you believe that, Ben?’ asked my boss. (the first time i had that interview). i can’t guess what it was. Then he told me why that was special cause our job is to bond sterntube seal which is a very important part for a vessel, once the seal meet any problem or cause any oil leaking, the vessel will not run. Vessel sterntube seal bonding is a kind of technic from German, and not many people know about this and it refer some special patent tool so that explains why no more than 10 people in China work in this field.
Our job covers 5 main steps:first, inspection, disassembling, cleaning of the parts; second, figure out the existing problem; third, after inspection, job was carried out by bonding method with owner’s supplied seals, this step is the most important part for all. We need to clean the new sterntube seal to make sure it is perfect good(every little bug can raise big problem), and then use a special tool to cut the new seal, to assembly back to the orginal liner, over heating the cut then it combine together. Upon completion, we need to carry out leaking test and make sure. The whold process seems really easy, but the engineer need to pay attention to every detail and avoid any problem.
When i took my first step onto a vessel, i said to myself †oh god i never see such a big vessel.†It was really excited. Before we did the above work we need to get permission to the engine room. I was in pure white workclothes with a safty helmet, which looks like an engineer(in fact i was only a engineer assistance). “We are service engineer, we are here now to inspect the seals parts. I said in a very proud way, showing our permission card. As my boss said ‘ Ben, good job’. then i get the permission. It was only the begining of my tough job…
I carried a damn heavy tool case and walked really long way to the engine room, ‘oh my god, it was really smelly here, i cannot control myself and say it out.’ †you will get used of it.†said My boss. And then he go nearby the said parts, taking out tool and did examine job. First I passed him tools and do some translation job. Then the job getting harder so i need to go down to do it together, we disassemble the liner, carried the heavy parts, i could feel my arm ache. I found black oil took up most of my clothes, and unware my face became black before i took a mirror in the washroom. Hours later, we carried out the bonding seal job, and this is the hardest job for us. I could not see any tension but self trust on his face. †we cannot do any wrong in this, every little bug raise big problem.†he said it many times before we finish….
The job was finally done and i felt exausted on both mentally and physically. I had no sleep for 24 hours. but i felt happy since i did a successful job…
My first job really gave me a good lesson, everything is not easy unless you do it by heart. It was two years ago, i never forget this and now i pay speciall attention to every detail in my job to make it better!
