Des Moines is the second largest and the most populated city in the state of Iowa of the US. It is known all over the world for its chiropractors. They are the practitioners of a system of treatment which does not require the use of drugs or medicines. It is known as chiropractic. Founded in 1890 by D. D. Palmer, this system believes, the dysfunction of spine, and thereby nervous system to be behind all the ailments of the human body and treat the patient by manual manipulation of the spine and joints. Though called unscientific cult by the modern medicine system, chiropractic has been thriving in Des Moines for the last 100 years and the reason behind this is the efficacy of the method which is endorsed by thousands of cured patients, including many celebrities. Just as many other forms of healing such as Reiki and Pranic healing, it is difficult to justify the process of chiropractic through scientific principles but those who believe in its efficacy are the strongest supporters of this method of treatment. Chiropractic Des Moines is mainly confined to the treatment of back and neck pains and the practitioners believe that by correcting the dysfunction of the spine, the patient is relieved of many other ailments as well.

Chiropractors are divided into two categories. One are called straights who believe that the treatment method is sufficient and no other therapy is needed to cure the ailment. They adhere in letter and spirit to the guidelines proposed by D. D. Palmer. The other category of chiropractors is called mixers who do not hesitate to take help of other types of exercises, acupuncture, homeopathy etc. to increase the efficacy of chiropractic. Chiropractors believe that there is a strong relation between a man’s health and the way his spine functions which means that any ailment in a person is seen as a result of the dysfunction of the spine. They try to bring the function of the spine to the normal by manipulating it with the help of the hands and also press the muscles around joints to relieve of pain in the back and the neck. There is no dearth of people who believe in the efficacy of chiropractic and that is the main reason why this old system of treatment is still going strong.
